About

Benson High School Volleyball has experienced growing success over the past few years and we intend to continue to build on that success. We focus on the fundamentals of the game and believe that winning is born out of and comes second to hard work, dedication, and most importantly creating a sense of family.

Character

More important than winning is the need and the drive to develop good character in our youth. Our program strives to instill the traits of timeliness, perseverance, compassion, interpersonal skills, and teamwork.

Fundamentals

Before any individual can find success in a sport, they must develop their fundamental skills. We believe that all athletes (regardless of innate athleticism) should be trained from the ground up with solid footwork, court sight, volleyball knowledge, and proper communication skills.

Coaching Staff

Michaela McNairy is the head coach of the program and is going into her 5th year as the head coach here at Benson. She has extensive coaching experience throughout all levels of high school volleyball, as well as running a middle school program. She acted as the JV and Assistant Varsity coach at Benson for 3 years before moving to the program supervisor for Corbett Middle School Volleyball. Many of her middle school athletes made varsity in a competitive high school program their 9th grade year. Michaela played volleyball from 8th grade through her senior year of high school. She went on to compete in track and field in college for her first two years and played club volleyball at CU Boulder for a year before needing shoulder surgery. Her main focus is on building character and discipline within her athletes that will be able to serve them going forward into the rest of their lives.

Saskia McNairy is the Varsity Assistant coach. This will be her 2nd year as a high school volleyball coach. She played volleyball from age 12 through her senior year of high school when her team won the 6A State Championship where she was announced game and tournament MVP. She was awarded Multnomah Athletic Club's Student Athlete Award as a sophomore in high school, was a multiple 1st team all league player in the Three Rivers League, and was named 6A and Oregon Sports Award Player of the Year in 2014. Although she had many scholarship offers for volleyball, she went on to compete in track and field at Oregon State University where she placed 7th in the Pac12 heptathlon for 3 years in a row.
